Is this an upgrade or a downgrade?
Well, as said, it’s not that the first gen A7 is inherently bad with AF, it’s definetly way under the later versions (th A7II is a BOG upgrade in that compartment). Is a really different way of shooting than a DSLR and needs some getting used to. IMHO, if I were to go on a lighter everyday carry, I

Questions about s5iix
Moire shows up now and then on my Lumix cameras, but it’s not just a Lumix issue. I saw moire back when I shot on Sony. I’ve owned the Sony A7SII, A7II, A7RII, A7III, and A7IV, and they all had minor moire problems as well. There are third-party fixes like the Kolari OLPF clip-in filter, but honestl

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! May 01, 2026
I've been a hobby and ocassional freelance photographer for many years and I'm looking to do a bit more photography, both for fun and potentially for clients. One challenge I've always had is that I understand photography and the technical specs, but when it comes to knowing what is 'good' and what

Finally got the 28mm 2.8 and slapped a metal mount on it to go with my 40/2.
Sure, I just mean that those lenses feel pretty poor, at least my 40se does. The images it takes are good yet the feeling of actually using it does not match the dense metal exterior of my Zf that it came bundled with. I genuinely would use it more if it felt more impressive to use. Kind of dumb sin

Why are EVFs so bad?
(...) there's room for both. (...) I completely agree. I'm only stating my personal preference. It's perfectly understandable that many people prefer MILCs, not least because of the fantastic capabilities of object-based autofocus modes. I kind of disagree about the detail difference in frame (...)

I just ordered this for my first camera, did I miss anything or buy anything unnecessary?
I have the Sony a7. This and the a7II have terrible battery usage. Really. They don't last enough. If you don't get a vertical grip to hold two batteries at once, you will be constantly swapping them. Be sure to have a few of them in the bag. Its a good camera, tough. Depending on your needs, you ma

Choosing my system, M43 or APS-C, and what lens?
I shoot Olympus exclusively for the last four years, after ditching my Nikon D750 fullframe for a Olympus E-M1 II. Never regretted it. The big plus for me in the Olympus cameras you have as options ist the weathersealing in conjunction with the 12-50! This combo can withstand basically anything comp

Camera Upgrade Help
The oldest you'd want to go with Sony's A7 series, IMO, would be the A7III. As I understand it, the A7II isn't great. Or save for an A7RIII, which has more resolution, or an original A9 if you're wanting more speed which can be useful for wildlife. Of course, you'd also have to factor in switching t
