Synology bietet neben überteuerter Hardware eine sehr gute Softwareintegration. Grad für sehr kleine Unternehmen ohne große Anforderungen bekommt man da was das out of the box funktioniert und bedienbar ist. Klar geht das auch alles günstig und open source aber dann muss man entweder Ahnung haben, v

OP for Rule 4 (Stinks of ChatGPT btw): We’re supporting a client where staff need to download large files into and from Google Drive. The issue is that Google Drive for Desktop uses local disk space as cache, so users with smaller SSDs (typical on laptops) can’t download the files at all — it errors

I just (today) bought DS1522+ (instead of 1525) as I have no time to migrate to different system now, but for sure, this is the last Synology device I bought. I will most probably migrate to Ubiquity disk station (7 HDD slots for approx 500-600€), and sell all my Synology NASes. I am very happy with

Always shr1. Doesn't benefit you that much now however on a two bay unit compared to raid1 but possibly later on when doing a hdd migration to another model with more drive bays. Then it would turn out you chose wisely. For a two drive shr1 raid, it is actually raid1 under the hood. When on another

You're not going to go wrong with something like a Synology DiskStation DS1525+ and good quality 2TB drives. Then at a later date you can increase capacity by replacing each drive one at a time and waiting until it's rebuilt the array, until all drives are replaced. That gives you local backups. The

You are right that QNAP only has those instructions that are posted on forums (which are still correct because it's just Linux thing), Synology does have it (https://kb.synology.com/en-global/DSM/tutorial/How_can_I_recover_data_from_my_DiskStation_using_a_PC) and I personally used that to read my 5 disk RAID

So, what you’re running into isn't a drive or formatting issue, it’s a USB enclosure compatibility problem with Synology’s USB stack, which is a lot pickier than macOS when it comes to how enclosures present the disk. On a unit like a DS124 running DiskStation Manager, external drives are expected t

Thanks - is there any power supply you would suggest? I'm thinking of buying this one with 120W output rather than 100W from the stock one that seems be insufficient/faulty: https://www.amazon.co.uk/TAIFU-Adapter-Synology-DiskStation-DS620slim/dp/B0CLLXPR6N

That sounds promising but a little risky as well, not sure if I want to move the built-in postgres location. Who knows if someone at synology will one day make some silly assumption and break my disk station.

The Synology plus series DiskStation NAS devices are arguably the most user friendly and feature rich. Synology also has a huge community like r/synology which can answer any conceivable question you may have. Bear in mind that most models don't support video hardware transcoding (which is needed to
