Thank you OP for posting this. Hope it helps someone. Of note, I recently upgraded to a Viofo A229 Plus dashcam, and that thing has fantastic resolution. It has gotten more expensive because of tariffs, but in my opinion, still worth it. I got the rear dash cam as well.

To anyone reading this: Get a dashcam. Viofo A229 is good but almost any will do. Practice using it. Learn how to download footage off the camera. Make sure you have uninsured motorists coverage for both bodily injury and property damage. Wear a seatbelt and don’t speed. Good luck out there.

Absolutely love it. VIOFO A229 Plus. Got it from Amazon for $130 if I remember correctly. Great quality even in low light as you can see and also has parking mode.

And get something that uses a (super-)capacitor as opposed to a battery - the former holds up to extended periods of high temps. This used to be a much bigger issue ~10 years ago, but it's still good to check and make sure Don't forget a high-endurance SD card. Not the run-of-the-mill cards As far a

I remember someone saying how much of a legal logistical nightmare it would be to have built in cameras function as dash cams which made a lot of sense to me. So short answer no the programming wouldn't allow it and you can't really "hack" eyesight systems in a way that would allow this. I have viof

My fiance has a super long commute so she wanted a dashcam. I ended up getting a Viofo A229 Plus for her. I wanted something that had good video quality and also a rear camera. I installed everything myself. Between the instructions and YouTube videos it wasn't too bad. We've had to use it for one a

Viofo A229. Comes with a rear cam too. I'm very happy with it after two Garmin Minis crapped out on me.

VIOFO seems to be top of the market right now. I have an A229+ and it was a breeze to install, works fabulously, and has caught lots of things.
