I've seen many cases like this on brevilles, the black coating is some kind of non stick layer that ends up like this eventually, breville stated that it's still safe to use at this state. As a bambino plus user I will never consider a breville machine after seeing this, even on their best machines

The grinder matters more than the machine, and you should budget a decent amount for that too.
