New backpacker (after 23 years) stuck: Atmos AG 65 vs. Kakwa 55?
I have used Osprey packs in the past and currently use the Kakwa 55. My partner has an Eja. We just did a 6 day trip. In my experience, the Kakwa carried the weight (I think heaviest was up to ~18k / 40lbs) really well. I don't mind the risk of a sweaty back because, for me, the trade-offs in the tr

Trying to find a backpack and would like some help
As for brands, Osprey is super reliable (I use an Osprey Atmos 65 and love the fit and all the pockets for organizing awkward gear). If you can, try them on in a store with weight inside, it makes a huge difference! Comfort is king when you’re carrying all your stuff. $200–300 is a solid budget, but

What are these straps for?
Think my comment got deleted by the bot, but you can search “Osprey Atmos 65 AG” on YouTube to watch the video from Osprey I linked above - describes how to use these ice axe loops, as well as what they included in the design to attach trekking poles (and explain other features). I always enjoy watc

What bag to upgrade to?
When you say the Nepal backpack are you talking about the one sold by the Go outdoor group? I had the old old version of that when it was badged as HiGear. It was pretty good as a large day pack but the very first time I loaded it up for wild camping it nearly cut my arms off my body 😂 I did about 1

New backpacker (after 23 years) stuck: Atmos AG 65 vs. Kakwa 55?
Wait I am uniquely qualified as I own both of these exact packs and they are both amazing. I started backpacking with the Osprey and I continue to use it for Grand Canyon backpacking because of the durability, breathability and water weight I have to carry. I don’t go as many days in the canyon so t

Light backpack options?
I have been using an Osprey Atmos 65 but it weighs nearly 5 lb. I just bought another Osprey, a 58 L one, that is their effort toward being much lighter. I think it weighs around 2-2.5 lb. It seems to have decent waist belt and shoulder strap padding even though it's in the 2 lb range at that size.

What’s the best travel backpack you’ve actually used and loved?
I use the Osprey Atmos AG 50 and I love it, super comfy, makes heavy loads not feel as heavy, loads of features like water bladder compartment, 2 side bottle holder that are accessible from the side and top, ice pick and pole attachments, stuff it pocket, 2 hip belt pockets and so much more. The bag

New backpacker (after 23 years) stuck: Atmos AG 65 vs. Kakwa 55?
I use an Osprey Atmos AG LT 65 without the brain because I run hot and like having the ventilation. It has the same trampoline back as the full weight AG but with less pockets and fewer adjustment options that aren't necessary for me. It weighs 3.5 lbs or so without the brain, right in between the t

Any large format backpackers?
Shimoda is garbage for any real hiking with heavy gear. That is not a real frame pack (I have one). I use a 65l Osprey atmos- you can get sleeves or inserts for camera gear and dump whatever you want in it. Night and day compared to any camera bag. You can get a big insert from peak design or simila

Osprey Atmos 65 - how to secure trekking pole or ice axe
The product video from Osprey now shows the stem of the axe being held by the top transverse tension strap, rather than a dedicated loop. Not sure about that as a change. https://www.osprey.com/gb/osprey-atmos-ag-65-s22?size=S%2FM&colour=Venturi+Blue 02:16 on the video.
