Like I’m stupid, compare a 7 vs 8?
Fenix 7 has an older HR sensor, no LED flashlight except on 7X, and only has a MIP screen, the AMOLED model was called Epix Gen 2. Fenix 7 Pro / Epix Pro are basically the same as Fenix 8, with all the same sensors and internal hardware, and LED flashlight on every model, the main differences are: F

I'm Impressed. Testament to the sapphire glass and DLC coating, 9 years on.
Damn and the scuff marks just age it like a fine wine! I’ve had great reliability with all of my Garmin devices over the years. Currently using an Edge MTB and Epix Pro Gen 2, they are both seemingly indestructible. The Epix literally keeps me healthy, and not so gently coerces me into training ever

After some thinking, I went Tactical
This is the really good looking smart-watch, it really resembles a G-Shock. I got an Epix 2 Pro two years ago when moving from Apple Watch - I wanted to keep the 'bright AMOLED screen'. My next one will be either the Instinct 3 Tactical (or 4, 5, 6 as I intend to wear my Epix until it dies). Only do

Vertical 2
I have a Fenix 8 and a vertical 2 and here is what i think. Sleep tracking on the Suunto doesn't work for me. Sitting around and watch tv in the evening is considered sleeping with Suunto. Therefore a lot of metrics are not right since i sleep much longer on the watch than i really do. For hiking i

HR Chest Strap readings from rolling
How old are you / what belt are you? Curious as to how this compares over age and rank / time training. I'm 44M / purple belt, track every training session with Polar H10 strap -> Garmin Epix Gen 2. Max HR is low 180s. I never actually hit it, the closest I'll get is high 170s. Most of my training s

Anyone made a switch from Garmin epix2 to AW Ultra gen3?
I went from Apple Watch 7 (2 years) to an Epix Gen 2 (2 years) and now an AWU3 (4 months). I miss some things from my Garmin but ultimately cared more about better integration with my phone and my Workout app of choice (Fitbod). Things I miss: week long battery life 5 physical buttons (you can disab

Fenix 5 user since 2019
Chalk and cheese really! I've had the F5, F6X and Epix Gen 2 (F7 AMOLED basically) since launch in Jan 2022. I'm waiting for the F9. The difference from the F5 to the F8 will be vast on the feature front, but they both record your actives similarly. The GPS accuracy difference between the F5 and F8

Apple Watch and Garmin Why not keep both ?
Exactly how I approach it. Apple Watch Ultra (first gen) on one wrist, Epix Gen 2 (titanium/sapphire) on the other. Apple Watches, for me, represent the best-in-class smartwatch experience for Apple users. It's also a cellular backup (safety, streaming audio) for me. Part of that is how much Apple l

Playing with an average of 170 bpm throughout a set. Should I be worried?
Smart watches wrist HR sensors can be very unreliable especially when shock is involved. Are right handed and wearing the watch on your left wrists but have a 2 handed backhand ? That might be enough to throw off the readings. Being a keen cyclist as a well as playing tennis - only light hitting wit

Favorite bike computer?
Garmin Edge 1050. Expensive but the larger screen is much easier for navigating. 1040 can probably still be found for a bit less. If you just want to collect data though it’s not really needed. I used mine for navigating in new areas but most of my rides are in areas I know well. So it’s overkill. B
