Yeah, this is a dumb move Synology

Oh yeah, I have the ds224+ which I love but I'm definitely not replacing it with a new synology after this. They took away video station and now force you to buy synology drives? Come on... They only care about big commercial guys now.

UNAS 2 just dropped?

These will replace the dozens of DS224+ models we have when they die, or Synology loses its mind and forces their drives to be used.

Synology starts selling overpriced 1.6 TB SSDs for $535 — self-branded, archaic PCIe 3.0 SSDs the only option to meet 'certified' criteria

yeah DS224+ is definitely gonna be the last Synology product i'll ever have at this point.

Why I Chose Synology Over UGREEN

4gb is not enough ram. I mean sure you can make do but compared to the same nas with max ram, you’ll notice the difference. And hardware can very much make a difference. My Synology is a ds224+. It uses an OLD celeron chip. It’s doesn’t even have avx support, so after using it for a few years to hos

More shady stuff from Synology incoming

I have a DS224+. If all these happened before I bought it, I wouldn't have bought it. I stopped using Synology apps after all the recent news, because there is no point, I do know that my next NAS won't be a Synology. So I would like to ask if it is possible to install another OS on my D224+ and for

Why are you sicking with Synology?

Well this will blow your mind but I had Synology devices for around 12 years up until I (finally) got a DS224+ about 18 months ago. Around Feburary this year I actually made the jump to Ugreen and bought a DXP2800 twin bay. Everything was set up and running fine until around June when I realised I w

Worth it to buy a dedicated GPU for trans-coding and other hardware accelerated tasks?

I can give you slight context. So I have mine running the server on my Synology DS224+, which has Intel N4120 which is slightly worse off than i3-9100 you have there. Intel quick sync is pretty good at transcoding with 3-5 clients requiring simultaneous transcodes at 1080p. The experience is that, i

Best NAS system to run Plex for a budget

Since this is your first NAS - you really can’t beat Synology for the user interface and final product polish. It’s so easy to set up a caveman could do it (me). I am in a similar boat to you (NAS newbie) and have the DS224+ and it’s excellent. Perfect for my needs.

I bought a NAS

I recently jumped ship and got a UniFi UNAS Pro to replace my aging DS918+, and it has been solid. Synology has served me well for decades (first model was a DS101g), but in their current form they’re overpriced and underperforming. A similar Synology NAS like the UNAS would cost double of the UNAS
