UNAS 2 just dropped?
These will replace the dozens of DS224+ models we have when they die, or Synology loses its mind and forces their drives to be used.

First time Ubiquiti user
I'm using 2 10TB WD Red drives I've been swapping between other NAS solutions I've tried. Originally bought them for a Synology DS224+. No issues so far. Getting ready to enable encryption with tne new EA version of Drive to see how that works.

If you are Weighing up the DXP4800 PRO vs DXP4800 PLUS - Save Your Money
I moved from a DS224+ to a UGREEN 4800 Plus. I'm very happy with the move. I know there is some software from Synology that you might miss, but to be honest I never used anything from them aside of DSM.I don't like propietary software, specially when it comes from Synology. I don't trust them at all

MyCloud Replacement
I had a 4tb MyCloud for years, even replacing its internal drive with a 10tb WD Red drive, and connecting external USB drives to it. It's 100mbps network connection was making it feel slow. I replaced it with a Synology DS224+ early last year and I'm completely happy with it. Was more expensive at a

My simple and compact DYI NAS - fanless Mini PC (TDP 6 watts), internal 1 TB SSD, External 4 TB USB 3.2 Hard drive, OMV 8.1, on 1GB home Ethernet network. Works for me!
I can’t tell from your comment if the 1TB drive is backed up somewhere, or the contents of it are itself a backup, but if it’s not backed up, I would certainly add that. As for costs of self hosting vs cloud storage, it really depends on where in the world you live. In Northern Europe, with electric

Begynder NAS

Best NAS to buy on 2025
My advice to the poster is to look at entry-level 2-bay NAS units like the Synology DS224+ or QNAP TS-233—they’re compact, beginner-friendly, and give you redundancy (RAID 1) so your photos are protected if one drive fails. Aim for at least 2×2TB drives (not 1TB total) to allow for growth and backup

What’s the best nas I could get as a beginner?
id advice him If you want something like UGREEN (simple, mostly prebuilt), go with a 2-bay Synology like the Synology DiskStation DS224+—it’s basically the “it just works” option with the easiest setup and best software ecosystem. If he wants cheaper but still solid, TerraMaster models like the Terr

NAS storage for recording
I also use Synology, but Ds224+. Took a bit of tweaking, but works most of the time. Initially had 2 minute recording buffer either side of the programs, which seemed to screw the recording up. Any tips for Synology recording?
